Paediatric First Aid course – Ofsted requirement

The course is designed for those who work with young children, those up to 8 years of age or working towards an NVQ in child care and education.

The aim of the course is to provide familiarity of the principles of First Aid and to allow the trained to recognise and deal with a wide range of conditions and accidents involving young children.

05. Hypoxia - Airway disorders – Asthma, Choking, Drowning
06. Unconsciousness
07. Cardiac Arrest and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation in adults, children and babies
08. Anaphylaxis
09. Wounds, Bleeding – minor and major blood loss
10. Fractures, sprains and strains
11. Epilepsy and febrile convulsions
12. Diabetes
13. Poisoning – bites and stings
14. Common childhood illness – measles, mumps, meningitis
15. Head and spinal injuries
16. Scalds and Burns

The duration of the course lasts 2 days and a Theoretical and Practical Assessment is undertaken in class by a tutor.

The course is valid for 3 years and a annual refresher course is strongly recommended.
